Hello Makeup Lovers!

With the new year has come so many new makeup releases that it’s beginning to get hard to keep track of them. There are a few however that have really caught my eye and from some of the looks I’ve seen created from them on Instagram, they look to be pretty amazing products.

First of all on my wish list is the Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette. I absolutely love pink and coral and the range of shades in this palette has my little makeup heart fluttering. Throw in some of those darker shades and I’m pretty much set forever.

Next are a few products from Kat Von D. Firstly, is the collaboration palette with Too Faced, aptly named Better Together. I love that the palette is heart shaped and magnetic. I love that it has two opposite sides that work on their own or can work together. I just love the look of it. Secondly, the Alchemist Palette. It’s gives me ABH Moonchild vibes. I love kooky highlighter colours so this one definitely speaks to me. Lastly is the latest release, the Pastel Goth palette. I think it’s actually quite hard to find a really good, pigmented, pastel palette, but from what I’ve seen, this palette seems to be the solution. I very much want to get my hands on it.

Lastly is the new foundation from NYX Cosmetics. It’s called Total Control and the bottom comes with a pipette so that you can control every single drop of foundation you use. The shade range is also unreal. I’m a massive fan of NYX. I’d say 70% of my makeup collection is NYX. This foundation would be an amazing addition.

What makeup products are on your wish lists this month? Let me know what releases you’re excited for!

#100DaysOfMakeup : Day Eighteen!

Another lip look coming at you today, weirdly involving a lot of products from NYX Cosmetics. I really love NYX. Their makeup is professional quality but at affordable prices which strikes a great balance for people like me who are aspiring to go professional but don’t quite have the money to stock up with more expensive brands like ABH and MAC.

The products I used were :

From this you can see that nail art gems really aren’t just for nail art, in fact, they’re the perfect size for cute embellishments around the eyes or on the lips like I did today!

Beauty School Dropout : My Masterclass Experience!

If you follow my Instagram, you will have seen that yesterday, I had the privilege of going to a makeup masterclass with Lou Teasdale and Nic Schuller as part of the NYX Cosmetics Pro Tour. I was unbelievably excited and I had the most amazing time taking part so I thought I’d write a post about what went on and share with you some advice that really hit home and will stick with me, and hopefully will encourage some of you too.

Firstly, I have to say it was pretty surreal. Walking into a room to come face to face with someone who pretty much inspired you to be more confident in playing with makeup is very weird. At first I still felt like I was watching through a computer screen until I sat down in the chair and I was like, hang on, Lou Teasdale is actually sitting there. It was actually a little intimidating – I’m an amateur at best, so to be sitting down in front of two pros was a little nerve-wracking. That said, they immediately made us all feel comfortable and my nerves slowly dissipated.

We were then showed two demos; one by Nic and one by Lou, which both demonstrated cool ways to use really easy techniques. It was pretty amazing getting to watch them work, and all the while they gave tips and tricks on the best way to handle models and clients. Then it was a case of us having a bit of a play around ourselves. NYX were kind and wonderful enough to supply us with all the makeup we could need and I have to admit, I could have passed out with happiness. There was every glitter I could ever need, a gorgeous bright eyeshadow palette, the Vivid Brights liquid eyeliner, glitter liners, lipsticks – I could go on for days. It was heaven. So we all got to create our own little looks on each other whilst Lou and Nic came round to give advice. Here’s the look I came up with which I decided to name the Peacock Glitter Eye!

It was super relaxed and so, so inspiring. Every single person in the room had their own individual style and no one was afraid to express it, to give things a go. There was so much passion for what we were doing in the room. I felt so motivated and encouraged and just so eager to be creative. If ever I had been hesitant about wanting to pursue makeup, all those fears flew out the window. It just reinforced that this kind of creativity is what I love. In fact, it’s inspired me to stop fearing what others may think of looks I create myself, and so, I’m going to be working on a section for this blog called Freestyle Friday’s where I’ll be showing you a look I’ve created and telling you how to recreate it. There’s a lot of meticulous planning to be done, but I’m super excited to share my creativity with you.

So what did I learn? The simple answer: a whole lot.

But I think there are two main things to take away from the class that I think will benefit everyone and anyone who wants to pursue makeup in any way, shape or form.

Number one:

You represent yourself and your work so don’t be afraid to throw a little bit of your individuality into your work because there’s no wrong or right when it comes to being creative. Colour outside of the lines a little bit, just do you! You can make your channel/blog/instagram – whatever means you choose – however you want, because its yours, to showcase who you are and your talent. It’s your online portfolio.

And number two:

We hear it all the time when we’re younger, but it’s so true, practice really does make perfect, and its the only way to refine your techniques and figure out what you’re really comfortable with and what might need work. It’s also the only way you’re going to get better. Practice on everyone; yourself, your friends, your family, it doesn’t really matter. If you put the work in, you’ll get the results that you want.

I hope you can take something away from this. I know I took a lot away from my experience yesterday and I’m so thankful I was given the opportunity. So, a massive thank you to Lou Teasdale and Nic Schuller for being so lovely and sharing your tips and tricks with us and being so encouraging, and thank you to NYX Cosmetics for making it possible.

Time for a haul! : NYX Cosmetics

So my latest shopping trip took me to Boots and our new NYX Cosmetics stand. It was like stepping into makeup heaven. I spent a long while swatching everything possible on my hand, even things I didn’t really need. By the end of it I looked like a bit of an abstract art piece.

However, I did manage to reign myself in and came home with four new pieces to add to my collection, all of which fill me with so much excitement.

Firstly, NYC Colour Mascara in CM07 Forget Me Not. It’s a gorgeous, bright purple colour which I’m hoping to ease myself into using. I love a pop of colour on the eyes and I’ve been looking for new ways to experiment with it. I’m hoping a swipe of this on my bottom lashes will be a nice introduction. Eventually I hope to figure out a look where I can wear it on both my top and bottom lashes.

Next I have two new liquid eyeliners: Glam Liner Aqua Luxe in GLA06 Glam Pink and Liquid Crystal Liner in LCL104 Crystal Silk. The thing I love about both of these is the sparkle! In the pink, it’s very subtle but there’s still enough to catch your eye without distracting from the lovely soft pink colour. The gold is dramatic and bold. It’s sure to make a statement on any look that it’s paired with.

My final, and perhaps my favourite product is their Glitter Primer. As you know, I’m a huge fan of glitter, but I’m not a huge fan of the mess or the creasing if you cover your eye with it. On the box, it claims to solve both of these problems which makes me very excited indeed. The thought of also trying Glitter Lips is also now more than a thought and something that will finally happen thanks to this little tube of magic.

All in all, this little trip only set me back £26.50 which is pretty darn good. I have zero complaints so far. In fact the most expensive item that I bought was the Glitter Primer and even that only cost £8.

If anyone would like me to review any of my new products in greater depth, or you just want to see my looks, let me know in the comments.

On a bit of a side note, I also have a new instagram completely dedicated to this blog so you can know in advance what I may be posting about and catch a glimpse of some of my daily looks. You can follow me in the sidebar or by searching a_little_sparkle_xo.
